Chartering Manager
The Role This role will responsible to develop the cargo book, spot and COA in the Dry Bulk market. Manage the relationships with cargo brokers and customers to ensure we see all on and off market opportunities.
Job Scope
Liaise with all customers and brokers involved with Handy imports and exports from the target region.
Identify key trades / cargo flows which match our operating profile.
Within the pricing parameters and under the authority of the GM (Atlantic) SB identify cargo opportunities, evaluate their returns within SB’s business model, and report same to GM.
Execute business effectively.
All calculations to be captured within the SB operating system
Accountability for all voyage calculations / business secured.
Accountability for all negotiations and terms for booked cargoes.
Identify and develop arbitrage opportunities which can add value to the book.
Manage the relationships with customers and brokers developing and effective network.
Identify new trends and potential customers and work towards building relationships with same and sourcing cargo.
Work closely with the operations department to ensure a smooth operation of all voyages / TCT’s
To increase wherever possible the efficiency of the fleet at sea (routing / slow steaming) to maximise returns for the Swire Bulk group.
Ensure that all c/p’s are completed accurately and quickly and signed by GM SB
Manage all necessary information entry into the SB dry bulk operating system.
Administer a document filing system for all concluded negotiations.
In conjunction with accounts and operations, ensure that freight payments are received on time and accurately from the customers.
In conjunction with accounts and operations ensure that final freight payments and demurrage are received within 30 days of the completion of discharge.
Liaise with operations (internal) on all parameters of the voyage to ensure smooth execution. Keep current and strictly implement procedures for executing fixtures / monitoring vessel performances / explain underlying variances.
Keeping up to date and strictly enforcing operating procedures in order to comply with the highest standards in our operating areas.
Understand, follow and disseminate information on changing legislation directly affecting our business from agents / ports / brokers / customers.
Liaising with the technical / operational departments with regard to ‘owned’ voyages.
Assist with weekly and monthly reporting.
The Ideal Profile
A bachelor degree from a renowned university
Minimum 3 years chartering experience in dry bulk (ideally with previous operations experience) with full understanding of handy bulk shipping
Strategic mindset with strong ability to grow business and relationships
Strong communication skills
