Electric braking.-To guard against backward running of an electrically-driven vehicle in case the supply fails while the vehicle is ascending a steep incline, a switch 4 automatically closed by the failure of current makes a braking shortcircuit around the motor armature 1 and the series field 2. If the motor is compound-wound it is provided with an additional automatic switch arranged not to complete the shortcircuit until the motor speed has sufficiently decreased.
