PURPOSE:To enhance the efficiency of manufacturing an electrode, by folding a plate belt united with two catenated electrode grids into a U-form at its center lug- part, and assembling these plates and other plates alternately. CONSTITUTION:Electrode grids 8 and 9, which are catenated at a plain processed part 10 at the center, and continuously formed, in a band form. A punched hole 11a and a plate lug 11b are formed by press works. A pastelike active material is applied to the grids and dried, before the grids with the active material are cut in a given width. The cut plates are folded into U-forms, and the plate lugs 11b are bent into gutterlike forms, thereby the plate-supporting strength being increased. The U-form positive and negative plates are assembled alternately, with platelike separators 5 interposed between them. A rodlike connecting shelf 2 the end of which is integrated with inter-cell connecting connector 2a, is welded between each of the plate lugs 11b. Another plain negative electrode 13 is welded to the end of the negative electrode group.
