Transport system for use with a roadway (14) comprising conductive sections (300a-300f) located lengthwise, so that electric vehicles (310) having one motor (320) and two (312 & 314 ) or three (312, 312 'and 314) contact elements come into contact with said conductive sections in order to be supplied. The conductive sections have intermediate spaces (302a-302e) to prevent short circuits caused by the contact elements. Alternating sections (300b, 300d and 300f) are connected continuously to a reference voltage and the remaining sections (300a, 300c and 300e) are connected, either directly to a direct current source (440), or by the through a switching device (304a-304c) for connecting them to any suitable power source (308), when the vehicle is located near said source. When three contact elements are used, their intermediate spacing is designed so that two of the three conductors come into permanent contact with sections of opposite polarity and two conductors cannot come into simultaneous contact with a space situated between the sections. When using a direct current motor (444), one can also use a unidirectional current passage means (450, 452, 454 and 456), so as to ensure that the current supplies the motor always in the same direction .
