PURPOSE: To provide a lithium secondary battery excellent in storing characteristic by providing a positive electrode containing a positive electrode material containing a lithium manganese composite oxide consisting of the baked body of a mixture of MnO2 LiNO3 and graphite. CONSTITUTION: A positive electrode 2 containing a positive electrode active material containing a lithium manganese composite oxide, and a negative electrode 1 consisting of a carbonaceous material capable of storing and releasing Li+ ion are arranged through a separator 3, and a negative electrode can 4 and positive electrode can 5 for housing them, respectively, are fitted through an insulating gasket 6. In such a lithium secondary battery, as the positive electrode active material, a baked body obtained by baking a mixed powder consisting of MnO2 , LiNO3 and graphite at a relatively low temperature less than about 310-350 deg.C in the atmosphere is used. Thus, NO3 content in the active material is significantly reduced, and the expansion of the battery content and the rise of the internal resistance during battery storage can be reduced.
