The system has a battery unit (170) of a voltage higher than 14 volts. A motor-generator unit (120) is placed between an engine (110) and a transmission (140) to function as a motor for driving the engine and as an electric generator driven by the engine. A control unit (160) recharges the unit (170) by controlling electric power of the unit (120) and for driving the motor-generator unit with electric power of battery unit. An Independent claim is also included for a method for determining the rotational speed of a motor in a vehicle.
