If you see a rental with this company, go find another place. They couldn't care less about you or your safety. Horrible at communicating, completely ineffective, and absolutely useless. I've never had a worse renting experience.

I have been trying to get in touch with this company for months when you call it says the mailbox is full they manage a property in south boston at 143 Lstreet there is trash all in the alley way for months none of the tenants take it out the city is involved now and the tenants finally took out the trash this past Monday but left half still in the alley all young people live in the apartments that they manage and don't care enough to check on their property all uncovered trash barrels not covered rats run around all day and night

My friend and I had a 3pm meeting with these guys today. Having responded to a couple CL adverts, and discussing the apartments they have listings for, they said come by at 3pm and ask for Tom.
The exchange of info prior to arrival;
Not interested in apartments managed by the Copley Group. There are some negative reviews; the guy that called back said that the two listings (each listed at $1400) were not managed by them; happy to chat and show them.
Tom would expect us at 3pm.
What happened;
Tom did not expect us.
Laughed at the idea of getting said apartments for $1500 or under.
The properties they did have were owned/operated by the Copley Group.
Sweet epic waste of time. At least beerworks was close enough to have a beer after.
Please don't e-mail me asking to revise my review. This describes a single interaction with SCS Realty Group, and the last.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Liz D.Philadelphia, PA3653May 19, 2009
Don't even contact them! Not only are these people rude, they're telemarketers. I have told them four times -- both speaking to a person and leaving messages -- to stop calling me. They won't, and it's deeply annoying; this has been going on for 3 months now. No joke.
Scott was strange and demanding when I was doing my apartment hunt, telling me to call him back later and not taking the time to answer any of my questions. He also wanted me to line up cosigners ahead of time even though I have a job and good credit...I'm guessing he doesn't typically deal with particularly upstanding citizens, or he just expects other people to behave as shadily as he does.
***Update regarding the comment below: I originally posted this in May, and I have received at least 6 more messages from their office since that time. It used to show up in my missed calls with an actual number, but the last couple calls showed as 'withheld.' I find that interesting.
I ultimately had a successful, pleasant and time-efficient experience searching for apartments with Jillian at Gateway Realty. She didn't waste my time or hers, but she didn't yell at me, either -- and we BOTH got to ask important questions. I found a suitable place in my price range and did not need a cosigner. It was a reasonable, professional experience, and it was entirely unlike my unpleasant interaction with Scott.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

We are a small real estate company catering to students, grab students and professionals in the Boston Area. We apologize for any additional follow up calls and are striving to improve our inefficiencies and will take this review to strengthen our system of leasing apartments.

Responded to a couple ads on Craigslist, no response.
Called and spoke to Tyler, who told me he'd call me back with some great options.
...Silence...
Several days later, Scott responded to a couple of my emails with a copy and pasted message saying he would help and to call the number I called. I wrote back saying I had spoken with Tyler and received no response. Scott did not respond to that.
Several days later, Scott responded to the original emails with the same automated copy and pasted message. I replied "Please remove me from your lists." He replied again with the same automated message. I replied again with "Please remove me from your list."
Haven't heard from them since. Awesome! Wipe my hands clean.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Chris K.Cambridge, MA08Jun 19, 2014
Bait and switch.
They post ads on Craigslist that are magically not available when you call ten minutes later about it. I called about a place for $1750 that seemed a little too good to be true, and the guy I talked to (won't say names) told me it was unavailable but asked when he could show me similar places for $1900. They will do ANYTHING for an extra dollar.
Nice try.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jess C.Saranac Lake, NY268409Aug 20, 2008First to Review
Scott from SCS was a jerk to me on the phone. I still made an appointment, thinking he'd be better in person.
I went down there on a VERY busy day (trying to find an apartment the 3rd week in August?!?! AAARRGG!). He was a total jerk to the guy he was on the phone with while I was waiting. Then, he wouldn't ask me what I was looking for in an apartment. Instead, it was, "What have you seen that you liked?" When I just didn't answer the question and told him what I was looking for, he told me that I should try Somerville instead. And, oh, by the way, he doesn't cover Somerville. And no, he doesn't know anyone that he could refer me to.
I walked out of the office swearing.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Adrienne P.Chapel Hill, NC7254May 28, 2014
Not the best experience. Didn't contact them directly, but must have been looking at listings on Craigslist that were affiliated. I somehow got them on the phone and scheduled some showings; I accompanied one of their younger agents around the Allston/Brighton area, saw gross apartments, and tried to fend off his semi-creepy small talk.
So far I've not heard from them, and I won't be contacting them again. It was nice of the agent to drive me around to so many showings, but...going to dingy listings in a car reeking of cigarette smoke with someone a little too friendly to me, a girl alone from out of town....0/10 would recommend : (Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Eleni P.Hollis, NH033Jun 9, 2014
Agree with everyone else completely. We used Erik starting at the beginning of December and I believe he was relatively new. He first recommended the apartments right across the street that were $2500, the most expensive price point we gave him, and then he told us there was no other apartments for under that price. We needed up putting money down for it, and he had us waiting for 40 days. 40 days with no contact from him whatsoever! Maybe we'll get it, maybe we won't. By the end, it was January, and someone else ended up getting the apartment, god knows how.
So we moved onto the next apartment. We toured one, loved it, and then we went back to his office to start filling out paperwork. Then, Erik decides to call to see if it's still available. After we filled out the paperwork, he gets off the phone and tells us that it was sold last night. Why he didn't check before we toured it is beyond me. After a few more weeks of no contact from him and no further movement, I went back and got my check back from him. Breaking up with that realtor was the best decision I ever made, do not go here!!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Alan B.Miami, FL12876Jul 20, 2009
I'll echo the sentiments of the first two reviewers. I did not use SCS Realty, but I must have responded to one of their CraigsList postings, because I have received 4 calls from them. Each time I have asked them to remove me from their list, as I had already identified a place to live.
Working with realtors in this city isn't always the greatest experience, but if you're looking for a decent one in the same area that SCS covers, I'd throw in my recommendation for Metro Realty Corp.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

I appreciate your review and steps will be taken to correct this mistake of having calls made to clients after they have found an apartment. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
