Shamed Paralympic sprinter Oscar Pistorius has reported for community service at Pretoria police station in his first public outing since he was released from jail.

The former sporting hero was released from jail in secret on October 19 under house arrest to serve the remaining four years of his sentence.

Pistorius was wearing a black baseball cap and sunglasses when he arrived at Garsfontein police station in the South African capital.

He is greeted by reporters who ask “Hi Oscar, how are you?”, but Pistorius did not reply.

The double-amputee athlete is serving a five-year sentence for shooting to death his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013.

On Monday this week the first picture of Oscar Pistorius since his release from jail was published on a friends social media account.

The sprinter appeared in a ‘selfie’ with South Africa rugby player Brett Sharman, apparently during a recent event where Pistorius is under house arrest.

The mother of Reeva Steenkamp has gone on the record saying that Pistorius should have spent longer behind bars for shooting her daughter dead.

The Paralympic champion Pistorius served less the a year in prison for killing his girlfriend at their home on Valentine's Day in 2013.

Miss Steenkamp was in a locked toilet at the property in Pretoria, South Africa when she was shot through the door.

Pistorius had claimed he thought she was an intruder.
