About this course

Our Business Management programme equips you with the necessary tools and knowledge to excel in today's dynamic and interconnected business landscape, while also preparing you for the challenges of tomorrow.

You’ll develop your managerial, administrative, planning, and analytical skill sets and lay the platform for a multitude of future career pathways by studying across all business functions including product design and innovation, marketing, human resource management and supply chain management.

You’ll gain the hands-on experience that employers look for too – thanks to our unique Authentic Business Learning (ABL) approach. This gives you the opportunity to take part in live projects, prototyping, user and market testing, professional pitches, scenario analyses, interactive group discussions, debates and other activities from day one.

And with our double international accreditations from the Association of MBAs (AMBA) and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), you’ll also be learning in a Business School that’s part of an exclusive club – less than 5% of the world’s 13,000 plus business programmes hold both AMBA and AACSB accreditations.

Choose your modules

For a full Masters degree, you'll study 180 credits over the duration of your course. Some programmes offer a Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) qualification or a Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) qualification. For a PGDip, you'll study 120 credits, and for a PGCert, you'll study 60 credits.

Study Skills and Research Methods

This module equips you with the essential skills you need at the start of your MSc journey. You will learn the academic skills required for progression and develop competencies to undertake your own research projects. The module emphasizes working within diverse settings, understanding the importance of feedback, and ethical considerations in academic research. By the end of the module, you will have enhanced academic skills, an understanding of working in diverse environments, and the ability to conduct ethical research projects.

This module offers a critical exploration of theories and debates in the global business context, enabling you to apply them to real-world business practices and activities. It examines the impact of institutional environmental changes on cross-border operations of organisations. You will gain knowledge to analyse international business phenomena and personalize your project topics according to your career ambitions. With flexibility and autonomy, you will acquire the ability to effectively apply international business theory, enhancing your understanding of global business dynamics and preparing you for diverse international business scenarios.

This module equips you with the marketing knowledge and competencies necessary for managing in diverse organisations with intercultural contacts. You will learn to devise sustainable marketing plans through real case studies. Practical aspects involve practicing and showcasing marketing management skills. The module emphasises the development of intercultural competence and the ability to navigate global marketing challenges. By the end of the module, you will be able to apply marketing concepts in multicultural contexts, create effective marketing plans, and demonstrate their understanding of marketing management principles.

Design-driven Business Innovation and Management

You will be immersed in the dynamic intersection of innovation management, design thinking, and human-centred approaches. Through a comprehensive exploration of the latest theories, principles, and practices, you will gain an in-depth understanding of strategic management of innovation within organisations, such as strategizing, prioritisation, generation, implementation, protection and appropriation of innovation. This module will introduce you to the realm of sustainable management of logistics and supply chain operations. Dissertation (MSc Business)

This Dissertation gives you the chance to tailor your research project according to your interests gained throughout the taught element of your MSc programme. The dissertation is the pinnacle of the MSc course and allows you to build upon your knowledge gained in the previous taught modules, by carrying out research based on real-world business challenges that will prepare you for the complexities of entering the job market.

The programme is designed for graduates from any discipline with a strong interest in the principles and practices of business and management. However, we do recommend that you have a basic knowledge and understanding of this area.

If you’re an undergraduate student at Hull, you’re guaranteed a fast-track route to this postgraduate degree, as long as you meet the entry requirements.

In order to ensure our students have a rich learning and student experience, most of our programmes have a mix of domestic and international students. We reserve the right to close applications early to either group if application volumes suggest that this blend cannot be achieved.
