What can I say about Ka bar that hasn't been said? Superb knife a...nd Company. Anyone who knows knives knows Ka bar. Excellent knife as always from Ka bar. Well made and sturdy. My only disappoints are that it was much smaller than I expected. I have medium sized hands and the knife feels small in my hands. The blade is around 3/4 inches wide and I expected the blade to be wider. Edge needed a few swipes to sharpen as blade was somewhat dull. Feels a little "toy-ish" when handling. But that doesn't detract from this superbly made knife. The craftsmanship is 2nd to none.

I was expedting a full-sized knife with a shorte...r blade. Nope - the whole knife is reduced in size. The blade width, the handle length and handle diameter are all smaller than a full-sized Ka-bar. It is very well made, just like it's "daddy", but would be better suited for a small-handed person or a young hunter. (Knife in the photo is a vintage Camillus, but same size as a Ka-Bar). Pay attention to the dimensions called out in the ad before you buy one !

It seems to be a good quality knife.... The one drawback that it has is that the grip handle seems to be just a little bit too small for my hand. I have large hands. For most people with average size hands or smaller this knife would be great. I have a other Ka- Bar knife i like better that is bigger.

I honestly cannot say enough good things about... this sheath. The design is excellent and extremely versatile, and the fit & finish are truly superb. It adds a tremendous amount of value to the knife. I know I'll keep this one for life. Keep up the good work & cheers from a very satisfied customer!

I... am going to give the KA-BAR short 5 stars because it arrived exactly as described: a high-quality, flawless American made knife that is razor sharp and comes with a great sheath. However, I will warn buyers that the knife can be much smaller than expected- and may not be the best value you can find. This knife is a scaled-down version of the original KA-BAR fighting utility knife. This knife has a blade length of 5.25 inches, which is exactly 3/4 of the original blade length of 7 inches. 5.25 inches still seems like a good-sized knife. But what many buyers don't notice from the pictures (including myself) is that the ENTIRE knife is scaled down, not just the blade. Being 3/4 of the size in each dimension (length, width, height), the knife is really less than 50% of the size of the original. Because of this (in my opinion), the handle feels too small, and the blade, while long enough, appears oddly thin for this type of fixed blade knife. However, I did not buy the knife for myself, but for my girlfriend; she is a very small person and this fit her hand just fine. I'd say the knife is a good fit for someone with small hands, but not someone with medium to large hands. Despite this, the knife is still made out of quality 1095 carbon steel and will still do its job well. My last point to consider is the value. Volume-wise, the KA-BAR short is less than 50% the size of the original KA-BAR, but still costs around $52 as of this writing, whereas the large version costs around $67. Yes, I realize that a good chunk of this cost is labor and quality control, so a knife half the size isn't automatically going to cost half as much. I'll let you be the judge if you still find this a good value for this knife. If you like KA-BARs, a good alternative to consider is the Mark 1. This knife is just about the same length as the KA-BAR short, but was really "built to be" a small knife rather than scaled down from a larger design. The handle is more robust to fit larger hands, and the blade is a bit wider. As of this writing, the cost for the synthetic-handled version is also about the same. TL;DR: the KA-BAR short fighting knife is an attractive, high-quality blade that is smaller than most people expect until they see it. It works well in small hands, but it may not be an ideal fit for people with larger hands.
