We're trying out something a bit experimental.

Our next google-hangout meeting is on September 14th, at 5:00 PM PDT for roughly an hour. We tried to find a time that spans as many timezones as possible for folks contributing to the project. If this doesn't work for anyone who's interested in attending, let us know, and we can try to figure it out.

The reason for this format is that people can easily post things here to discuss if they're not going to make it, and they can reference the issue from other issues, or commits, to make it a bit easier to get an idea of what an agenda should be.

I've set a couple of milestones. I'd like to talk about roll out dates.

What's painfully missing from this conversation is how to actually attend the meeting.

I've been notified that not everyone likes using google hangouts. I think that's fair. Maybe a better (smaller barrier to entry) is having the meeting in IRC? Bonuses: you don't need a google account, everyone can join, it's lightweight, people can just observe, it's a reason to use the #openfarm chatroom on freenode, you can be eating like a glutton while on it (me).

Thoughts @RickCarlino @roryaronson @andru?

If not, can whomever is going to host the hangout post how to join here?

I'm down for an IRC chat (especially this time) because I unfortunately have another important meeting at the same time but I can multitask if we're on IRC.

I think Hangouts are nice for the personal touch but feel ya on why not everyone likes them. Maybe we switch off between IRC meetings and Hangouts from here on out?

I'd like to talk about the Digital Badges feature (I really just want a Salsa badge lol) and how best to spend the Kickstarter funds.

Craziness at the meeting today: We got netsplit!

In my network I talked with Skud (from GrowStuff), Rick, and one other person with an alias I didn't recognize. I asked Skud about a possible collaboration of a shared crop database. Skud mentioned they have ~400 crops in theirs. I mentioned that Simon is about to import 40 thousand into ours from ITIS. I asked her why she didn't do that with Growstuff, she pointed me here.

I asked why GrowStuff is focused on only edible plants - she didn't have a reason, just that that is their focus. The other person asked about their primary use case which is: folks wanting to track their plantings/garden (planting data, location) - features I mentioned we were planning on building into OpenFarm eventually with the "Add to My Garden" button on each Guide. What would be useful to our users is creating a weekly email synopsis for what to do in the garden each week, directly based on the Growing Guides the user is using and how old the plants are!

I told Skud I would keep in touch.

Did the other half of the network get to chat?

The other side of the meeting was basically me just hanging out, waiting for things to rejoin, and then giving up and resetting my connection. I'm not sure that worked :(

Better luck next time!
