Ashley Cole won't come to MLS because he's 'not ready to relax on a beach'

Ashley Cole was recently released by Chelsea in the Premier League and moved to Italian Serie A side AS Roma. Roma finished second in the Italian top flight last season and is looking to sure up their back line to dethrone Juventus and challenge for the Champions League.

Upon arriving in Italy, he shared some information about other teams that had courted him.

“I had offers from the USA, but I’m not ready to relax on a beach yet,” Cole told reporters at Rome’s Fiumicino airport, according to ESPN. “I’ve won a lot in my career already, but I don’t want to stop.”

Plenty of things might cross one’s mind upon arriving at their new stomping grounds. Things like ‘I’m happy to be here,’ or ‘I can’t wait to train under the head coach here.’ Cole covered the last platitude, affirming his faith in new head coach, Rudy Garcia, claiming that he could lead Roma to the Scudetto this season.

You DO NOT however, talk about the offers you TURNED DOWN. Just like you don’t talk about exes on a first date, or ever, unless they absolutely drag it out of you.  Even then, more often than not, they still don’t actually want to know.

To be fair, the 33 year old former England International could still be playing at Chelsea if their roster weren’t already so stacked, but it isn’t wise to take out misplaced frustration on a league he’s never played in.

(Thanks to ESPN for sharing.)
