Bold and vibrant. Glitz and glamour. Spectacular locations. Those words have become synonymous with the world of Ryan Murphy. The stories might be vastly different, but audiences across the worlds of TV and film know a Ryan Murphy set when they see one.
The Art Directors Guild honors the showrunner with its Cinematic Imagery Award at the 25th Annual Adg Awards on April 10.
One of the ingredients of Murphy’s secret sauce is his repeat collaborations with key department heads in production and costume design, as well as in hair and makeup — relying on major players behind the scenes to help create his aesthetic and keep it uniform, whether he’s going after something dark and sinister or bright and glowing.

The Netflix limited series “Hollywood” premiered on May 1. Created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, the seven-episode drama imagines the golden age of show business if the era really had been golden for the marginalized groups who were ignored or oppressed by society at large. Now the silver screen fable could have a happy ending at the Emmys. Scroll down for our exclusive video interviews with top Emmy contenders from the show.

Matthew Ferguson had the enviable task of handling the production design on Netflix’s splashy limited series “Hollywood,” a reimagining of Tinseltown in the 1940s. Having previously done set decoration for previous Ryan Murphy projects, this was his first-ever job as a production designer on a TV series. “I was thrilled and honored that he trusted me to do the job so I took it and ran with it,” Ferguson says in an exclusive interview with Gold Derby. “It was just a big collaboration.” Watch the new video interview above.

It seems like a lot of fans are misinterpreting James Gunn's recent comments regarding The Avengers crossing over with Guardians of the Galaxy. One of the things he said comes from an interview with Comic Vine, in which he said the following:
"The last thing I said was something about how the Guardians, we really are mostly focused on creating the Guardians as their own separate universe, creating the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe. It isn't all about leading towards Avengers. We're not subservient to The Avengers. Whether or not at some point, some Guardians and some Avengers meet up and meet somewhere in the world, whether it's two years from now, three years from now, four years from now, fifteen years from now… I'm not going to say. But Guardians of the Galaxy does not exist as a prequel to Avengers 3 and 4. They...

As I’m sure everyone knows, The Avengers will officially hit Blu-Ray/DVD starting tomorrow and in case you were still on the fence about purchasing it (anyone?), Marvel has decided to throw in a little incentive in the form of a free poster.
Three of the posters were created by Matthew Ferguson, who is also responsible for designing the beautiful cover art for the delayed Phase One box set. The fourth poster is created by Mark Bagley, based on his Avengers Assemble #1 cover.
Here’s how it works. You’ll automatically receive one poster with the purchase of the 3D Blu-Ray, Blu-Ray, or DVD. The additional three posters will be available for just $19.99 for all three. All you have to do is purchase one of the three DVD/Blu-Ray releases and you’ll find a special promo code waiting on the inside for you. Then, just visit avengersofferassemble.com and enter the code.

We've got another viral YouTube video on our hands, and it's centered around a man in various stages of shaving.
Matthew Ferguson, the assistant director of student life at Rutgers University, posted a video of his head -- 6 of them, in fact -- floating against a black screen while lip-synching to Nicki Minaj and David Guetta's "Turn Me On" on Wednesday night.
Perhaps the most intriguing part is that some of the heads have beards, others have mustaches, and some are facial hair-free.
According to Ferguson, the purpose of his video "Mattstache" was to give his beard, which he had sported for five years, a proper send-off.
"We did not expect this one to go the way it went," Ferguson told New Brunswick Patch. "The machine took over."
Despite the fact that his video has been viewed over 300,000 times in under 48 hours, Ferguson is staying humble. "If we make...

With tonight’s episode of Nikita being a rerun, I decided to take a second look at the pilot and re-evaluate my first impressions, to see if things looked any different now. For the most part, I found myself sticking by what I said in my original review, but there were some aspects which became much clearer the second time around.
As I said then, the pilot episode is definitely a pilot. It’s clunky, expository, and only a so-so episode on the whole – but that’s what a pilot is. It has to spend most of its running time explaining to you who these people are and why you should care, and Nikita got the first part down, but not so much the second. I didn’t then and don’t now consider that a failure, considering that I can count on one hand the number of pilot episodes...
