Oh Good lord, I just bought the silicone base for my dx50, and now this comes out?  what?!?!?!?!?!  Ridiculous!  Ibasso always has something up its sleeve.

I'm genuinely curious as to why iBasso are not equipping this with dual MicroSD slots.

That's not a rant; it's honestly perplexing to me that they would go through all the DAC implementation and then have only one card slot

FWIW, I suspect that quite a number of people will buy both the X5 and the DX90, considering what diehard geeks audiophiles are, and that other DAPs cost twice as much (or more than twice as much) as either of these DAPs.

Looks like that silicone may be usable for the DX90, too, so don't feel too bad!

phew... saved 15 bucks.  Now I can throw out the DX50 and not feel bad.  Life saver that you are.

SOLDDDDDDDDDDDD. I saw this thread title and I was like "WHAT?!?!?!" and thought it was a speculations post... but nope! I'll be a guinea pig first batch buyer like I was for the dx50.

I am not sure they will stick to the exact DX50 layout. They may use some aspects of it but localize the components somewhere else, like use the sides better. So double microSD is not an exclusion. If they want to compete with the likes of Fiio X5, they may well provide it and maybe keep the internal memory for the internal components and be entirely external driven which I welcome cause I really don't use the internal tinny memory except for updates anyway.

I find that at this stage the specs are very fluid and iBasso knows that, they look around, gauge the competition and see where they can maximize their income. I am getting more and more impressed with them. I'd say go for it and they'll come. It's up to us to voice our wants and needs, they seem to be receptive to them. If you feel that USB audio is the way to go, then rally others to go for it and if there are enough people voicing the need, they may incorporate it.

Is a single full SD going to take too much space than a dual microSD? I will take a full SD anytime than a dual-micro SD.

For me the size of the internal built-in storage is not important. If they can save space to go down to just 4GB storage just enough to handle the firmware/OS and use the space to add more features then it will make more sense. We should see 128GB microSD or 256GB full SD soon so I'd rather expand the storage from the outside and maximize the space inside the DAP for something else.

March is an aggressive timeline.. Coincides with x5 international release...

Totally agree but my feeling with them is be there or forever forgo the sales. So I don't think they got a choice if they want to maximize their sales, it won't happen after a load of people have bought into the X5. The return on investments is inversely proportional to how early you are in the game, high return early, low return late. Now mind you they have to execute it such that failures and bugs are way down else it could trigger an inverse effect.

I just hope that ibasso keeps their date... so that this thread doesn't end up like the dx50 thread, with tons of pages and posts about the release date, delays, speculations, etc.

it's good to get into these threads early, by the time the DX-90 comes out the thread will be into 4 or possibly 5 figures of posts and take an age to read

I think this time they are enhancing on top of the developed DX50 firmware and that may save them some time for development?

I am also a disciple of the double microSD and minimal memory, just want to make sure they have enough to operate the player and firmware updates. I am definitively gunning for putting everything on the sd cards, it's so convenient and fast if you use a reader.

That's the mentality that makes me nervous. It's like DX50 all over again if they rush it out the door and let us do the QA for them.

I already waited for the dust to settle a bit with DX50 before getting one. But even then it still gave me a few annoyances. I can only imagine the grief it cost to guys who were there from the start.
