The Geomorphosite Assessment by Trapezoidal Bipolar Fuzzy Information-Based CRITIC-MABAC Method

Subjectivity is well-known to be one of the most significant issues encountered in evaluating geoheritage. Even if frequently used quantitative evaluation methods reduce this problem to some extent, it is impossible to eliminate subjectivity. Based on this problem, the present study aimed to integrate Bipolar Fuzzy Numbers (BFNs) into geoheritage assessment methods. The proposed methodological approach was applied as a case study on five geomorphosites detected in Artvin province in Türkiye. At this stage, six main and twenty-one sub-criteria obtained from the literature were compared with five alternatives and rated by five experts using linguistic variables. Then, the ratings of each expert were converted into BFNs and combined into a single matrix. This obtained matrix was transformed into the final matrix with the ranking function of BFNs. In the last stage, the criteria weights were determined with CRITIC, and the ranking values of the alternatives were determined according to the criteria with MABAC. According to the results, the most important geomorphosite was the Hatila Basalt Columns. The proposed methodological approach has proven to be a viable method of avoiding subjectivity in geoheritage assessment. In this sense, it is predicted to make significant theoretical contributions to the subject literature.
