mine is great , it is 2 weeks old, a 6300 with 2 gig ram, the 7300 LE,Firewire card ,  the 250 gig HD and  I added a 160 and a 320 gig , also blew away MCE, reformatted  and loaded XP PRO, I am using it as a DAW and it rocks with Sonar SP6. no problems so far with an external FW audio interface and dual monitors...

Mine started randomly rebooting itself on Friday.    Probably happend 5 or 6 times this weekend.   Ran through some of the Dell diags last night and found nothing.

Going to try and narrow it down before I try and call and get the run around from support.

Mine was one of the systems  that shipped before the hold.

I love mine... it is INCREDIBLY fast and stable.

Awesome, couldn't be happier with it. Other than wishing that they would have included an extra right-angle sata HDD cable for the additional drive I put in. :)

winnie, how do you do a clean install of windows pro without getting all the dell crud back on there?

If you ordered a reinstallation CD, it's easy. The reinstallation disk puts just the OS back on there. The one exception I had was the ESPN Zone was installed. There was also a web tangent app and a few games to remove. It amounted to a lot less than the bundled package that came standard on delivery. If you didn't get a reinstallation CD, ask Dell for one. They should be able to provide you one upon request. I'd also recommend deleting the maintenance partition.

I'd recommend visiting the following web site for solid XP installation and tweaking for performance/stability. My XPS 400 runs very good after a fairly clean installation.

Inside the web pages are links to applications that the author recommends using. I was already using several of these applications before stumbling upon his web site. He did a very good job of making the steps easy to follow and included pictures. Even for beginners, it should be easy to set up your system as recommended. After you build a clean baseline install, use Acronis True Image. Make a full back up. It's a great program that I have used. If you have a failure and need to restore, just use the Acronis image.

My wifes machine had the same problem. I disabled DLA and rebooted and it still wouldn't open from the front button. I powered the machine down, and after rebooting it has worked since. The only disc I loaded after we received the machine was Office 2003 Professional.

Also the 13 in 1 media reader was so loose it would slide in and out of the chassis bucket +/- 1/4" They used stand off screws at all four points. I installed 2 std screws in place of the 2 back screws and it worked just nice. To bad that someone signed off as this being acceptable in test and then QC prior to shipping. They either don't know( which they should ) or don't care and were just trying to move product out the door to appease users. Either reason is unacceptable.
